Strengthening the Ecosystem: OJK to Release MSME Financing Performance Reports Semi-Annually
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is continuing to strengthen the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) financing ecosystem by providing increasingly comprehensive, accurate, and accessible data and information. This initiative aims to support more targeted and sustainable MSME financing development and decision-making.
Speaking at the launch of the MSME Financing Performance Development Report for the first semester of 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, OJK Executive Head of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, stated that MSMEs play a strategic role in the national economy as drivers of regional economic activity, job creators, and pillars of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
According to Dian, access to financing is a vital instrument for increasing productivity, expanding production capacity, driving business transformation, and helping MSMEs adapt to technological advancements and market changes. However, MSME development also requires strengthening human resource quality, business governance, market access, digitalisation, and conducive regulatory support.
“Expanding MSME financing is not the end goal. The true objective is to create MSMEs that are more productive, more competitive, more resilient to change, and capable of providing an even greater contribution to job creation and national economic growth,” Dian stated in her remarks, quoted on Wednesday.
Dian explained that MSME financing from various financial service sectors continues to show a positive trend. As of July 2026, total MSME financing reached Rp1,949 trillion, representing a year-on-year growth of 3.09 per cent.
The banking sector remains the primary source with an 82.62 per cent market share, while the finance company, venture capital, microfinance institutions, and other financial service institutions (PVML) sector recorded MSME financing growth of 9.92 per cent with a 17.3 per cent market share.
This development indicates increasingly diverse sources of financing available to MSMEs, tailored to their characteristics, needs, and stages of business development. The diversification of financing sources also provides space for the financial services industry to expand targeted support to MSMEs.
Strengthening Data-Driven Decision Making
OJK continues to improve the availability of comprehensive, accurate, and easily accessible data and information. This data provides a more complete picture of MSME financing developments, including growth, financing quality, economic sector characteristics, regions, and the contribution of each financial service sector.
“Good policy must be built upon good data. Therefore, an information base is required that can depict MSme financing developments more holistically, covering aspects of growth, financing quality, sectoral characteristics, and the role of each financial service sector,” said Dian.
To strengthen the use of such data, OJK is compiling and publishing the MSME Financing Performance Development Report on a semi-annual basis. This report is part of OJK’s commitment to increasing information transparency and supporting more data-driven decision-making.
The report presents MSME financing data in a more structured and granular manner across various financial service sectors based on MSME segmentation, economic sectors, and regions. OJK also supplements this with semi-annual publications, monthly infographics, and detailed data access through the OJK Data Portal (data.ojk.go.id).
Deputy for Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of MSMEs, M. Riza Damanik, appreciated OJK’s step in providing more up-to-date and easily understandable MSME financing references. He noted that the availability of high-quality data can strengthen the understanding of MSME conditions while encouraging collaboration between stakeholders.
“We hope this publication can enrich references and literacy regarding MSMEs, as well as expand collaboration and partnerships to encourage more MSMEs to advance,” said Riza.
OJK hopes that the MSME Financing Performance Development Report can be widely utilised by regulators, ministries, agencies, the financial services industry, academics, business actors, and the public as a reference for understanding MSME financing developments and for formulating targeted policies, business strategies, and MSME development programmes.
Moving forward, OJK will continue to strengthen collaboration with all stakeholders to build an inclusive and sustainable MSME financing ecosystem. This strengthening is directed not only towards increasing the nominal value of financing but also towards improving the quality and effectiveness of financing, ensuring MSMEs become more productive, competitive, and resilient to change, and capable of contributing more significantly to job creation and national economic growth.
