Strengthening the Digital Economy, Ministry of Communication and Digital Invites IBM to Invest in Indonesia
Indonesia is becoming increasingly serious about consolidating its position as a major player in the global digital economy. The Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, has invited the technology giant IBM to invest in Indonesia to accelerate digital transformation and build sustainable technological infrastructure.
“We are not only opening opportunities but also inviting IBM to contribute to strengthening a more advanced and inclusive digital ecosystem in Indonesia,” said Meutya Hafid during a meeting with IBM representatives at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office in Jakarta, as reported by the Ministry’s website on Thursday (27/2/2025).
During the meeting, Meutya Hafid emphasised that the government is accelerating the construction of three National Data Centres (PDN), which will serve as the primary foundation for the digitalisation of both the public and private sectors. The first National Data Centre in Cikarang is targeted to be operational in the first quarter of 2025, while two others will follow in Batam and another location currently under study.
The government is also encouraging IBM’s involvement in the development of cloud computing services, computing infrastructure, and data centre operations to enhance Indonesia’s digital competitiveness.
Responding to this, IBM’s Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Emerging Markets, Ana Paula Assis, stated that IBM sees great potential in the application of hybrid cloud technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and data security in Indonesia.
“IBM is ready to be a strategic partner in building integrated digital infrastructure that connects traditional technology with modern cloud services while ensuring better data protection,” said Ana Paula Assity.
Furthermore, the government is committed to creating policies that support investment in the digital sector, including data protection and business-friendly regulations.
The Director General of Digital Government Technology at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Mira Tayyiba, asserted that Indonesia is ready to provide a stable investment environment and significant growth opportunities for international partners. As a concrete step, the Ministry and IBM will hold follow-up discussions to design investment models and mutually beneficial cooperation schemes.
“We want Indonesia to be not just a digital market, but also a leader in the era of the global digital economy. This collaboration is a major step towards that vision,” concluded Mira Tayyiba.
