Strengthening Surgeon Competency Key to Improving Healthcare Quality
Efforts to improve the quality of surgical services in Greater Jakarta continue to be strengthened. The Indonesian Surgeons Association for Jakarta Raya (PABI Jaya) has affirmed its commitment to delivering higher-quality surgical services through strengthening the competence of medical personnel, implementing digital technology, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
PABI Jaya’s working meeting, held alongside a mini symposium in Jakarta, produced a number of strategic recommendations. One of these is a commitment to promote high-quality surgical services in Greater Jakarta while affirming that general surgeons are deemed competent to act as coordinators in the management of emergency traumatology in emergency departments (UGD).
“The PABI Jaya working meeting promotes high-quality surgical services in Greater Jakarta. In addition, it has been confirmed that general surgeons are deemed competent as coordinators in the management of emergency traumatology in emergency departments,” said the Chairman of PABI Jaya, dr Yesaya Baringin Aroean SpB-ET FINACS.
At the forum, PABI Jaya also reaffirmed the use of the SpB-ET (Emergency Traumatology Surgery Specialist) title for general surgeons. The title was previously announced by the Chairman of the Indonesian Surgery College, DR dr Supriyanto Dharmoredjo SpB-ET FINACS, during the inauguration of the PABI Jaya management for the 2026–2029 term on 16 May 2026.
The PABI Jaya management for 2026–2029 is led by dr Yesaya Baringin Aroean SpB-ET FINACS as Chairman, supported by Secretary General dr Asrul Muhadi SpB-ET FINACS, Chairman of the Advisory Council Dr dr Henry Boyke Sitompul SpB-ET FINACS, and five department heads who also attended the working meeting.
According to Yesaya, the new management carries the motto of Rapid Response, Competent, Adaptive, Collaborative and Communicative, with a vision of making PABI Jaya a modern, professional and relevant professional organisation of surgeons, capable of benefiting its members while supporting the realisation of quality surgical services in Greater Jakarta.
To realise this vision, PABI Jaya will implement a number of priority programmes, including the development of information technology and organisational digitisation, competence improvement through continuing education, strengthening collaboration with various strategic partners, and enhancing advocacy and member welfare.
“Safeguarding the dignity and standing of Indonesian surgeons includes strengthening professional and ethical standards, monitoring and ensuring quality surgical service standards, providing education both digitally and directly at healthcare facilities on surgeon ethics, and continuously improving the role of surgeons in emergency departments and the standing of the SpB-ET title,” he said.
PABI Jaya will also strengthen synergy with surgical education institutions, the Indonesian Surgery College, social health insurance providers, professional organisations, and the Ministry of Health in order to produce increasingly skilled and competent surgeons.
In the field of digitisation, Yesaya continued, the organisation will develop various technology-based services, ranging from digital member registration, optimising social media, podcasts and a call centre, to a tracking system for the validity period of Practice Permits (SIP) and Registration Certificates (STR) that will remind members six months before their practice permits expire.
In addition, he explained, PABI Jaya will continue to expand its continuing education programmes in line with the latest developments in surgical technology, including facilitating members to take part in various fellowship programmes to enhance their professional competence.
