PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is ensuring that fuel oil (BBM) distribution in eastern Indonesia remains stable and equitable by relying on sea routes as the backbone of energy supply, one of which is through the Wayame BBM Terminal in Ambon, which holds a strategic position as an energy distribution hub in the Maluku region. As Pertamina’s Downstream Subholding, Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to optimise its sea-based energy distribution system to address the geographical challenges of the archipelago. Support from an integrated tanker fleet ensures that BBM supplies are delivered on time and sustainably. Energy distribution to the Wayame BBM Terminal is supported by a fleet operating sustainably via sea routes, using Medium Range (MR) Tankers and General Purpose Tankers. The involved fleet includes PIS Cepu, Matindok, Merauke, Krasak, Klawotong, and Katomas, with capacities ranging from 17,500 DWT to 50,000 DWT, enabling the transport of large quantities of BBM while reaching ports with certain limitations. Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth M. V. Dumatubun, stated that sea routes play a strategic role in ensuring equitable national energy distribution. “Energy distribution via sea routes serves as the backbone in reaching island regions. We ensure operational readiness and fleet preparedness so that energy supplies remain equitable, especially in eastern Indonesia,” he said. With Ambon’s strategic position as an energy distribution node in the east, optimising sea routes is key to strengthening national energy resilience while ensuring fair and equitable energy access to island areas and 3T regions, with a focus on safety and environmental protection aspects.
