President Director of Agung Sedayu Group (ASG), Nono Sampono, affirmed his company’s commitment to supporting the strengthening of the Islamic economy. At the national seminar ‘The International Seminar on Sharia Economics (ISSE) 2026 at Marketing Gallery PIK 2, Jakarta,’ Nono explained that this effort includes presenting various concrete initiatives, one of which is the establishment of Menara Syariah (Sharia Tower) at PIK 2.

“We have Menara Syariah. It’s an icon for Islamic economic development. Many things have already been done there, with more plans ahead, especially as we approach the holy month of Ramadan,” Nono said, as quoted on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Beyond that, he confirmed that various activities will also be held at ASG’s Menara Syariah, such as bazaars for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and various community outreach events for underprivileged communities.

“It will certainly be filled with various activities. There will be performances, such as bazaars, then also MSMEs, and also social outreach for the lower-income community. So we do it all,” he said.

He expressed hope that Indonesia can become one of the world’s centers and magnets for the global halal industry. As the country with the world’s largest Muslim population and an Islamic economic strength that has broken into the global top 10, Indonesia inherently possesses great capital to advance even further.

“However, we still need to develop Indonesia’s Islamic economic pillars to achieve an even better ranking,” Nono said.

He added that the challenges facing Indonesia today are not light. Competition comes not only from countries with majority Muslim populations but also from countries with Muslim minorities. Nono cited examples of countries such as Australia, Japan, Thailand, India, and Brazil, where the Muslim population is even below one percent, yet they have emerged as major players in the global halal product industry.

“Take Brazil specifically — imagine, with a Muslim population below one percent, it has been able to build the largest halal feed industry in the Americas,” Nono said.

“So the United States, Canada, Latin American countries — they have opened up enough of a market for Brazil to develop the halal feed industry. It has even managed to penetrate the Saudi market,” he said.
