REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Strengthening economic governance is seen as a crucial step to maintain the stability of the rupiah, capital markets, and the national investment climate amid global geo-economic uncertainties. Necessary reforms are required, from government program management to boosting investor confidence in domestic financial markets.

Chairman of the Expert Council of the Association of Indonesian Indigenous Entrepreneurs (Asprindo), Professor Didin S Damanhuri, said the government must continue to strengthen concrete steps in sectors affecting national economic stability.

“The government needs to continuously make concrete improvements in aspects affecting the rupiah exchange rate and the IDX Composite Index (IHSG),” Didin said on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

He believes that strengthening the governance of programs such as Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) and Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) can help improve budget efficiency and expand government fiscal space.

According to him, these steps can also support managing the national budget deficit to keep it under control. Additionally, Didin urged strengthening capital market governance to boost domestic and foreign investor confidence in Indonesia’s investment climate.

“This is important to regain trust from both domestic and international stakeholders in the capital market as a vehicle for raising capital and industrial development for large national corporations, SMEs, and foreign entities,” Didin said.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining stability in the banking and capital markets to ensure healthy portfolio investment flows amid global geo-economic uncertainties.

“This step will help Indonesia boost economic growth amid global geo-economic and political uncertainties,” he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto met several former officials from the administration of the sixth Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026. The meeting discussed experiences in handling the 2008 economic crisis.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that a number of economic management experiences from the 2004-2014 period were also discussed during the meeting.
