Strengthening Flood Control, South Tangerang City Government Constructs 204-Metre Retaining Wall
The South Tangerang City Government (Tangsel) is continuing to strengthen flood control efforts through the construction of water flow control infrastructure at several flood-prone locations. One such project is being undertaken in the Bukit Nusa Indah area, Ciputat District, involving the construction of a 204-metre retaining wall.
The Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang, Pilar Saga Ichsan, emphasised the local government’s commitment to implementing phased flood management. The development and reinforcement of infrastructure are being intensified in areas that require urgent attention.
“The South Tangerang City Government is committed to ongoing flood management, one of which is by strengthening water flow control infrastructure, such as this retaining wall construction. We will continue to map and address points that truly need intervention,” Pilar stated in a written release on Monday (14/09/2026).
Pilar noted that flood management is conducted by assessing the specific conditions and needs of each area. The construction of the retaining wall in Bukit Nusa Indah is a step towards strengthening the water flow control system while reducing flood risks for the local community.
The Head of the Department of Water Resources, Public Works, and Construction (DSDABMBK) of South Tangerang, Robby Cahyadi, confirmed during a visit on Wednesday (02/09) that the construction of the retaining wall in Bukit Nusa Indah has officially begun. This measure was taken because the location is identified as a flood-prone area.
“This area has experienced flooding, as reported by the local community head. Therefore, we are building a retaining wall alongside the pedestrian path,” said Robby.
According to Robby, the retaining wall is being built on both the left and right sides of the water flow, with each side measuring approximately 102 metres, totalling 204 metres.
In addition to the retaining wall, the project includes the construction of a 90-metre parapet wall. A 204-metre pedestrian path is also being developed, which will simultaneously serve as an inspection road for the area.
“There is also a 90-metre parapet wall, so there is a pedestrian path along the edge of the retaining wall. There is also an inspection road,” Robby concluded.
The water flow control system in this project is further enhanced by several supporting facilities. The South Tangerang City Government is constructing additional infrastructure, including water gates, flap gates, and other complementary structures.
Robby stated that the work is targeted for completion by December 2026. The project is expected to strengthen water flow control in the Bukit Nusa Indah area and reduce the flood risks previously experienced by the local residents.
