Strengthening Environmental Oversight Emphasised as Crucial Amid Rising Industrial Zone Activities

Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) ensures that industrial practices operate in accordance with applicable regulations and do not cause negative impacts on the environment and surrounding communities. This is achieved, among other things, through a working visit to the MM2100 industrial zone to oversee industrial activities, particularly regarding environmental management aspects.

Member of Commission XII DPR RI, Shanty Alda Nathalia, stated that direct field inspections are important to obtain a factual picture of the implementation of environmental management in industrial zones.

“In carrying out the DPR RI’s oversight function, the working visit to the MM2100 industrial zone is conducted to directly observe environmental management practices, while also ensuring that impact control mechanisms are effective and in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Shanty, quoted from her statement on Friday, 10 April 2026.

She emphasised that strengthening environmental oversight in industrial zones is crucial amid the increasing industrial activities. According to her, business actors’ compliance should not be limited to administrative measures but must be reflected in actual field implementation.

“Strengthening environmental oversight in industrial zones is important to ensure that business actors’ compliance is not merely administrative but is also reflected in the implementation of waste management, emission control, and sustainable protection of communities and the environment,” she continued.

Furthermore, this visit also serves as a momentum for Commission XII DPR RI to encourage collaboration between the government, industrial zone managers, and business actors in improving environmental management standards. With stronger and more integrated oversight, it is hoped that industrial zones can develop sustainably without neglecting environmental protection aspects.
