We, residents of Jl. Kerkof, South Cimahi district, are
disappointed at the measures taken by the Bandung authorities who
forcefully demolished the fence walls of the community to make
way for a road widening project. We considered the action
unpopular and one that ignored the people's aspirations.

Historically, Jl. Kerkof was built by the Dutch colonial
government and the fence and the building itself remain in the
former position. The residents wish that land compensation be
paid based on Presidential Decision No. 55/1993.

But according to the project contractor the land compensation
could not be considered because the fence walls surpass the
borderline of the street. In this case the contractor must prove
its allegation, and must not try to threaten the community and
manipulate government regulations.

Besides, the local authorities must be made aware of the
practice of the contractor who has given illegal compensation to
some individuals.
