Street vendors disciplined
BOGOR (JP): Amid cries of protest, security officers have stepped up their crackdown on street vendors for causing traffic congestions in public places across the city.
Dozens of local administration employees cleared streets and sidewalks along Merdeka bus terminal and the Bogor Police headquarters from vendors on Thursday to give a sigh of relief to motorists.
Antara reported that the operation to discipline street traders began to intensify on Monday.
But protests poured into the city administration office for "exaggerating measures" after the security officers were seen seizing traders' belongings while executing their duties on Wednesday.
The officers took away calendars and bags sold by some vendors who used to operate in front of the railway station. They also threatened to confiscate a frying pan belonging to a fried chicken seller. (amd)
