Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Street Vendors’ Association (APKLI) has expressed appreciation for Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung’s commitment to protecting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) amid global conditions and an economy fraught with uncertainty.

“Of course, we do not want the heavy global economic pressures to further burden the people in the midst of these conditions. And there must be no elimination of business opportunities for street vendors and MSMEs in DKI Jakarta, whether itinerant sellers, grocery stalls, or MSMEs,” stated APKLI Chairman Ali Mahsun in Jakarta on Sunday.

Ali noted that the commitment to protecting street vendors is also evident in existing regulations, one of which is the Jakarta Provincial Regulation on Smoke-Free Zones (Perda KTR) No. 7 of 2025.

Ali assessed that the regulation strikes a balance between health and the economy.

“Governor Pramono Anung has made a decision that the DKI Jakarta KTR is a provincial regulation that balances health and the economy. And the Governor has consistently stated that the Perda KTR must not kill the small people’s economy,” Ali explained.

Ali said that based on APKLI data, there are approximately 1.1 million small traders in Jakarta whose livelihoods are now on the brink.

This number includes grocery stalls, itinerant sellers, and street vendors.

Therefore, the Perda KTR is considered to have a significant impact on MSME incomes.

“We respect and appreciate the concrete steps taken by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, who from the outset has conveyed that the people’s economic actors, street vendors, and MSMEs must not be killed. And there must be no expansion of smoke-free zones that disrupts the wheels of the people’s economy,” Ali stated.
