Street Light Pole Removed in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta to Prevent Collapse Amid Road Subsidence

JAKARTA – Street lighting pole near collapsed road in Lenteng Agung, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, was removed on Saturday (30 May 2026). According to observation at the site around 5:20 PM WIB, the white street light pole, previously standing on the roadside alongside other utility poles, has been removed. A site officer stated the pole was taken down as a precaution due to the expanding road subsidence, which threatened the stability of the pole’s foundation. Measures were taken to secure the poles to prevent them from shifting or sinking into the collapsed area. A DKI Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishub) official present at the scene said the pole was removed around 2:00 PM WIB on Saturday. ‘It was taken out by SDA staff around 2:00 PM WIB today. The ground near the area is continuously eroding, and there’s concern it could be dangerous if the pole remains upright,’ the Dishub official said on Saturday. Riski, a worker from the Water Resources Sub-District Office (SDA), said the removal was to reduce safety risks during repair works. ‘For now, it’s been removed for safety. The ground beneath is still unstable due to ongoing drainage works and water flow under the road. Better to secure it before it collapses,’ Riski said. Vehicles passing through have to slow down and take turns using temporary lanes, causing long traffic jams. A large excavation pit is visible, with surrounding soil eroding due to water flow beneath the road. The affected area has expanded since the initial collapse on Friday morning. ‘Stream flow is getting stronger, and I’ve heard the poles’ foundations are being eroded,’ said Febrian Ashar Haq, a Jagakarsa Road Maintenance Unit Staff, at the scene. According to Febrian, the pole removal was to prevent it from falling into the construction site or the road.
