Street Light Cables in Koja Stolen Again, Pavement Dismantled
Public street lighting (PJU) cables along the roadside in the Tanjung Priok Port area, North Jakarta, have been stolen again. The perpetrators also dismantled the pavement paving blocks at the location.
The PJU cable theft is suspected to have occurred this morning. This is not the first time PJU cables have been stolen by dismantling the pavement.
The theft was reported by netizens to local authorities. The Koja District Satpol PP team visited the crime scene on Jalan Jampea, Koja Subdistrict.
Officers found the pavement blocks in a dismantled condition. The PJU cables at the location had also been stolen.
“From field monitoring, it was found that the regional government asset had indeed been damaged and taken by unknown persons,” stated the Koja District Satpol PP on its Instagram account @satpolpp.koja, Tuesday (9/6/2026).
Satpol PP Koja then coordinated with the Bina Marga agency for repairs. Residents reported that the PJU cable theft has left the entire stretch of road from Cilincing towards Tanjung Priok Port in pitch darkness.
“To restore public facilities for the comfort and safety of road users, this finding was immediately coordinated with the Bina Marga Implementing Unit of Koja District for prompt follow-up,” it said.
Satpol PP thanked all residents who cared and quickly reported public order disturbances in their neighbourhood. They urged all parties to safeguard facilities together.
“If you see acts of vandalism or other public order violations, do not hesitate! Report immediately through the Jakarta Siaga 112 Contact Centre or the JAKI application,” it appealed.
Previously, a similar case occurred in July 2025 in the same area. Police investigated the case and arrested five people who were stealing PJU cables on the pavement of Jalan Jampe, next to the Koja Toll Gate, North Jakarta.
“Found cable cutting activity on the side of Jalan Jampea next to the Koja Toll Gate,” said North Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Kompol Onkoseno GS, Thursday (24/7/2025).
The cable theft caused the roads around Tanjung Priok Port and Cilincing to have no lighting, leaving them dark at night. The location of the cable theft turned out to be within the Koja area, North Jakarta.
The five perpetrators were arrested on Wednesday (23/7) at around 14.00 WIB. The five perpetrators had the initials MFA (29), IS (29), MY (34), ALF (36), and JA (21).
