Street Crime Perpetrators in Berantas Jaya Operation Dominated by Productive Age Group

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) stated that of the 729 suspects arrested for street crimes during Operation Berantas Jaya 2026, the majority belong to the productive age group. The Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, explained that the 25 to 29 age group contributed the highest number of suspects, with 219 individuals.

In addition to the 25–29 age group, there were 161 suspects aged 30 to 34, followed by 155 individuals in the 35 to 39 age range, and 139 individuals in the 19 to 24 age group. Regarding middle-aged to elderly groups, officers recorded 48 suspects aged 40–44, 28 aged 45–49, 8 aged 50–54, and 7 aged over 55. Furthermore, officers apprehended 4 young suspects or adolescents aged between 15 and 18.

Polda Metro Jaya, alongside various local police departments, successfully arrested 729 suspects involved in street crimes and motor vehicle theft (curanmor) during the execution of Operation Berantas Jaya 2026. The operation, conducted from 4 to 18 July 2026 across the entire jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya, successfully uncovered 769 cases of street crime.

“Of the total 729 suspects arrested, 705 individuals are being detained, while the remaining 24 suspects are not being detained in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” said the Deputy Chief of Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Brigjen Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono, during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

Dekananto explained that during the operation, investigators successfully seized 839 pieces of evidence, including cash amounting to Rp10,763,000, 11 firearms, 27 sharp weapons, 428 motorcycles, 21 cars, 150 mobile phones, 71 bullets, 119 ‘T-keys’ (lock-picking tools), and 12 airguns. As part of their service to the community, Polda Metro Jaya returned 62 motorcycles and 5 cars to their rightful owners after a verification process.

The suspects face charges under Article 477 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023) regarding aggravated theft, Article 591 of the Criminal Code regarding receiving stolen goods, and Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 regarding the illegal possession of firearms or sharp weapons.
