Street blockade protested

JAKARTA (JP): Several residents of the Ketapang Indah
residential complex in the Lebak Bulus subdistrict, South
Jakarta, have filed a complaint with the Municipal National
Stability Coordination Agency about a street being blocked in the
area.

They demanded the street be reopened.

The street blocking was conducted by several men, under the
order of Achmad Ma'ruf, by placing a concrete slab on the street.
Only pedestrians and motor cycle drivers are able to get into the
street.

"It's the only way to get to our house," Sarifudin, one of the
resident told Antara.

Kaptin Adisumarta, the owner and manager of the Ketapang Indah
Residential Area, said that the blockage has been removed by
local residents five times since November last year, but was
always immediately put back again.

South Jakarta Vice Governor Idroes has actually sent a letter
to Ma'ruf, warning him that blocking the street was not in line
with the area master plan.

According to Inventory Map No. 44/IVEN/1992, the area has been
earmarked as a public street, the letter stated.

South Jakarta Mayor H. Pardjoko also has warned Ma'ruf to ask
permission from other residents before closing the street.

The warning was apparently ignored by Ma'ruf, which is why the
residents went to agency. (25)
