Stray bullet hits resident's home in Ciracas, East Jakarta; police carry out ballistic testing
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ciracas Police Sector (Polsek Ciracas) says the stray bullet that landed at a resident’s home in Kelapa Dua Wetan, East Jakarta, is still undergoing ballistic testing. Ciracas Police’s Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Hotman Capandi, explained that the tests aim to determine the type of bullet and the weapon used. ‘The ballistic test is being conducted to identify the type of bullet and the weapon used; there will be information from Puslabfor (Pusat Laboratorium Forensik),’ Hotman Capandi told reporters on Friday (22 May 2026).
Earlier, a resident’s house in Kelapa Dua Wetan, Ciracas, East Jakarta, was struck by a stray bullet on Wednesday (20 May 2026).
Owner Hamidah (50) explained that at first she heard a blast from the roof that resembled the sound of fireworks. ‘Suddenly there was a sound like fireworks; the sound wasn’t too loud and wasn’t too soft. From the upper left direction, after that a bullet fell right here,’ Hamidah said when met at her home on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
At the time, she was sitting on the sofa, while her seven-year-old child was sleeping on the floor. ‘Yes, the bullet fell right in front of me, near my child’s feet. I immediately held the bullet; it was still warm. My child was startled and hugged me,’ she said.
