Strava introduces new features to support hiking activities
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Fitness application Strava has launched a number of new features for mountain hiking activities that can help users plan trips, navigate trails, and share their experiences with the community.
According to an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday, Strava said the update comes amid the rising popularity of hiking as part of sports trends. Based on Strava’s Year In Sport report, the number of hiking clubs on the platform increased 5.8-fold throughout 2025.
The update introduces various features that can be accessed for free by all users. Strava also provides more comprehensive features specifically for subscribers, including advanced route planning, offline navigation, and cinematic sharing features for athletes who want to explore further.
Strava also provides a Route Discovery feature that utilises global activity data to display popular trails in a region. Additionally, the Route Builder feature allows users to design hiking routes with actual information on distance, elevation, and surface conditions. The Route Save feature then enables users to save routes from various pages within the app for easier access later.
On the navigation side, Strava introduces a new feature called Off-Route Alerts that will notify users when they deviate from a planned route. Furthermore, users can now utilise route navigation directly via Apple Watch without needing to open their phone. Routes created in Strava can be synced to compatible Garmin, Apple Watch, and Coros devices.
For users who frequently engage in activities in areas with limited signal, the app still provides offline route features so navigation can be performed without an internet connection.
In this update, Strava introduces a 3D Activity Map display that allows users to view hiking routes in a three-dimensional landscape complete with topographical and elevation details.
For social features, the app introduces a Repeat Activity feature that can re-display hiking activities on the user’s feed so their friends can view the route from start to finish. Strava also provides statistic stickers containing information on distance, elevation, and activity duration for sharing on social media.
Meanwhile, the Flyover feature allows users to create a three-dimensional animation of the route they have travelled based on actual elevation data. This feature is available exclusively for subscribers.
Most features are currently available on the Strava app, while map style updates will be rolled out in September-October this year.
