Strava Among 25 Platforms Threatened with Blocking in Indonesia Over Registration Rules
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A total of 25 private Electronic System Providers (PSE) have been issued warnings by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) for failing to meet established registration obligations. Strava and Qatar Airways are among those included in the list.
If registration is not completed by 3 July 2026, these PSEs face potential administrative sanctions, including the possibility of service access blocking.
“If the PSEs have not fulfilled their registration obligations by the specified deadline, we will take follow-up actions in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations, including the delivery of warning letters and the application of administrative sanctions in the form of access blocking,” stated Teguh Arifiyadi, Director of Electronic Certification and Transaction Supervision at Komdigi, in a press statement cited on Thursday (2/7/2026).
He noted that PSE registration is a vital part of the effort to realise an orderly, safe, and accountable digital space. Through registration, the government can ensure that the operation of electronic systems complies with applicable legal provisions and provides better protection for the public.
The provisions regarding the registration obligations for private-scope PSEs are regulated under the Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation Number 5 of 2020 concerning Private-Scope Electronic System Providers (PM Kominfo 5/2020). Articles 2 and 4 of this regulation explicitly require every private-scope PSE (both domestic and foreign) to register their electronic systems.
As part of its supervisory duties, Komdigi issued notification letters on 26 June 2026 to 25 private-scope PSEs, consisting of 15 foreign and 10 domestic providers, covering a total of 57 electronic systems in the form of websites and applications, demanding they fulfil their registration obligations no later than 3 July 2026.
The list of private-scope PSEs that have received notifications includes Strava, Qatar Airways, Qantas Airways, ANA, Best Western, Banyan Tree, WorldHotels, and The Ascott Limited. Also included are several national hotel groups such as Archipelago International Indonesia, Aryaduta Hotels Group, Hotel Indonesia Group (HIG), and Tauzia Hotel Management.
