Strategy to Ease Traffic: 30% Toll Discount Officially Effective From Today
The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and Jasa Marga (the state-owned toll road operator) has officially implemented a 30 per cent toll tariff discount effective today, Monday 16 March 2026. This policy represents the primary strategy for traffic management to address severe congestion predicted to occur at the peak of Lebaran 1447 H exodus.
The Transport Minister stated that the discount at the beginning of the week is aimed at stimulating the public to depart for home earlier. “We want to distribute vehicle concentration. With this 30 per cent discount, we hope the burden on roads during the peak exodus on 18 March can be reduced significantly,” he stated in an official statement in Jakarta.
Based on real-time monitoring at the Jasa Marga Command Centre, since the discount took effect at 00.00 Western Indonesian Time, there has been an increase in vehicle flow at Cikampek Utama Toll Gate. However, traffic conditions remain moderately congested compared to projections without the discount.
Transport experts view this measure as highly crucial. If 15 to 20 per cent of homebound travellers take advantage of the discount window today and tomorrow, the V/C Ratio (vehicle volume to road capacity ratio) at critical points such as kilometre 48 to kilometre 66 on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road can be reduced below 0.8.
For homebound travellers, this policy provides noticeable economic benefits. For travellers continuing from Jakarta (Cikampek Utama) to Semarang (Kalikangkung), the savings are substantial across the toll network.
To ensure this congestion mitigation strategy operates optimally, Jasa Marga has reminded road users of several technical requirements for toll usage.
The government hopes that with this incentive, the public will not only achieve cost efficiency but also driving comfort by avoiding the peak congestion that causes fatigue.
