"Strategic Cyber Defense Partnership" Essential for Building Cyber Resilience
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Yohanes Glen, SVP Head of Enterprise Security at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), stated that to build cyber resilience in a company today, a “strategic cyber defence partnership” solution is more appropriate than purchasing off-the-shelf cyber security solutions.
A “strategic cyber defence partnership” means that the partner engaged by the company as a cyber security service provider for its systems does not stop at providing products but also offers ongoing services, from detecting cyber security vulnerabilities to repairing them if found.
“So what is needed is a relationship between the seller and buyer as a Strategic Cyber Defence Partnership. Meaning it’s not just one-stop shopping where once you buy the product, it’s done. But it continues to service,” said Glen during a discussion event on cyber resilience for business held by IOH in Jakarta on Monday.
In IOH’s latest official report “Business-Based Cyber Resilience Strategic Framework”, it is revealed that the average loss caused by each data breach due to cyber attacks in Indonesia is estimated to reach Rp15 billion.
Meanwhile, for the financial sector, the average loss is slightly higher if facing a data breach, amounting to Rp78 billion.
These figures can occur because the costs incurred are not only for technical system repairs but also for operational and governance repairs, company image repairs, and regulatory compliance.
In addition, Glen said that in the field, although awareness of cyber security has grown among business owners, preparing a secure cyber security system is still not proactive.
Cyber security practitioner and Deputy Head of the Master IT Program at Swiss German University, Dr. Ir. Charles Halim, also stated that in building cyber resilience today, business owners still use a reactive approach rather than proactive.
“We must change this mindset (from reactive to proactive),” said Charles.
Reflecting on this, companies that are now undergoing digital transformation need to seek cyber security service providers that not only focus on products but also continuously support their systems to make them more secure.
“Cyber resilience is no longer measured simply by operational metrics, but through time, there is time to recover, time to detect, and so on. Therefore, this (strategic cyber defence partnership) is needed so that the partnership between customers and service providers becomes more strategic,” said Glen.
