Stranded at Soetta Since Early Morning, Passengers Reschedule and Refund Tickets
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) has been temporarily closed due to volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. The situation has led a number of prospective passengers to decide to reschedule their flights and request refunds.
One of them was a passenger named Hadad, who was due to fly to Ternate, North Maluku. He said his flight was originally scheduled to depart at 02.00 WIB in the early hours of the morning.
“The schedule was at 2 o’clock last night. Then it was postponed to 6 o’clock this morning. Then it was cancelled again, and cancelled again. And we collected our baggage, the flight was cancelled,” said Hadad when met at Terminal 3 of Soetta Airport, Tangerang, Sunday (6/9/2026).
Hadad ultimately decided to take the reschedule option. He was forced to collect his baggage, which had already been checked in at the check-in counter.
“In the end we collected our baggage and then came up here to reschedule the flight,” he continued.
Hadad hopes that flights can resume smoothly soon. He also hopes that the spread of volcanic ash will diminish quickly.
“Yes, hopefully the weather will be good again,” he concluded.
Another prospective passenger, Iqbal, was due to travel to Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. Unlike Hadad, he chose to proceed with a refund.
“For a ticket refund, sir. From Jakarta to Banjarmasin,” said Iqbal when met at Terminal 3 of Soetta Airport.
He admitted that he had been waiting since 04.00 WIB for his flight. Because there was still no certainty, he then decided to request a refund at 09.00 WIB.
“I have been here since 4 in the morning, but queuing for the refund since 9 in the morning,” he said.
Iqbal confirmed that he would go straight home after completing the refund process. He said the time he had spent at the airport had been too long.
“I’m going home, mate. I’ve been waiting this long,” he added.
For information, the temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten, due to volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau has been extended until 17.30 WIB.
“Based on information from relevant stakeholders, from AirNav, it has been officially announced that incoming and outgoing flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are closed until 17.30 WIB,” said Soetta Airport Deputy Police Chief AKBP Sendi Antoni to reporters at the location, Sunday (6/9/2026).
All departing and arriving flights at both domestic and international terminals are temporarily closed until 17.30 WIB. Soetta Airport authorities will continue to provide the latest updates regarding flight operations.
