The Strait of Hormuz has been reportedly closed again by Iranian authorities in the wake of Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. Amid reports of the closure, PT Pertamina has provided an update regarding the tanker ships usually used to transport crude oil from the region.

“Pertamina continues to monitor the highly dynamic developments in the Middle East conflict, with Pertamina’s ships still located in the Persian Gulf and not yet passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” said VP Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, when contacted on Friday (10/4/2026), as reported by detikNews.

Baron stated that Pertamina prioritises the safety of the ship’s crew. Pertamina is also coordinating with relevant stakeholders regarding follow-up plans.

Baron emphasised that Pertamina places great importance on the safety of the crew and the ships. Pertamina is also maintaining close communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) to ensure the situation and follow-up plans.

Baron also assured that Pertamina supports the government regarding energy availability amid the Middle East conflict. According to him, Pertamina is committed to distributing energy throughout the country.

“We follow and support the Government in providing energy for the community; Pertamina continues to distribute to the remotest areas,” Baron added.

It is known that the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic waterway for global energy supplies. The area is affected by the ongoing war in the Middle East. Before the war broke out, around 20 million barrels of global oil usually crossed this important waterway every day.

As a result of the war, transit activities in the Strait of Hormuz have been effectively restricted since early March 2026. Iran then agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire agreement with the United States for two weeks.

However, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz again on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The closure followed Israel’s military attack in Lebanon against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
