Strait of Hormuz Reopened, Pertamina Prepares Two Detained Ships to Resume Sailing Soon

Jakarta, VIVA – Pertamina, through PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), is preparing a passage plan for two of its ships detained in the Strait of Hormuz, allowing them to resume sailing as soon as possible.

Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, explained that this comes alongside the Iranian government’s announcement of the strait’s reopening.

“We are on standby for intensive monitoring and preparing safe passage planning so that the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro ships can cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Vega on Saturday, 18 April 2026.

She revealed that the preparations include route planning, risk identification, electronic navigation, and contingency plans.

Currently, PIS is also actively coordinating with various related parties, including the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), which is intensively assisting communication via diplomatic channels with relevant authorities, she said.

Vega added that the company is continuing to coordinate with insurance companies, ship management, cargo owners, and local authorities to ensure all permitting procedures are properly fulfilled.

“The company’s priority remains the safety of the crew as well as the security of the ship and all its cargo,” she stated.

It is known that on Friday, 17 April 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that commercial and shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz would be fully opened during the ceasefire.

“In view of the ceasefire in Lebanon, traffic for all commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz is declared fully open for the remaining duration of the ceasefire,” said Araghchi in his post on social media platform X.

He stated that the opened shipping route is in accordance with coordination, as announced by the authorities of the ports and maritime affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The two tankers operating for Pertamina were detected still in the Persian Gulf region, according to the Vessel Finder ship tracking website up to last week. The Pertamina Pride ship was detected off the coast of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia; while the Gamsunoro ship was recorded off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (Ant)
