JAKARTA – Two ships owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), namely Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, remain held in the Arabian Gulf area and have yet to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This situation arises amid escalating tensions in the strategic shipping route, after Iran re-closed the Strait of Hormuz less than 24 hours since it was briefly opened. Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, stated that the company is continuously monitoring the highly dynamic developments in the area. Vega added that the company is coordinating with various parties to ensure maritime safety before the ships continue their journey. “We are continuously coordinating intensively with relevant parties, including ministries and authorised authorities, while still preparing a safe passage plan,” she said. She emphasised that safety aspects are the top priority amid the uncertainty of security conditions on the ground. On the other hand, the Indonesian government is also continuously monitoring the situation. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu), Yvonne Mewengkang, stated that monitoring is being carried out through coordination with various parties, including the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tehran. “The Indonesian government is continuously monitoring the developments in the region, including the Strait of Hormuz, through coordination with KBRI Tehran as well as relevant authorities and partners,” Yvonne said. She added that KBRI Tehran, along with PIS, is continuously coordinating with Iranian authorities to support the smooth passage of Indonesian ships. “The safety of the crew as well as the security of the ships and all their cargo is currently the Indonesian government’s top priority,” she said.
