Straight to A&E, No Wait: Yuni Praises JKN's Swift, Non-Discriminatory Care
The experience of entering a hospital’s Emergency Department (A&E) without a long wait left the deepest impression on Yuni Kaswanti as she accompanied her husband undergoing treatment at DKT Dr. Soetarto Hospital, Yogyakarta. The Gondokusuman resident said they received immediate care upon arrival at the hospital. “Straight away. As soon as we arrived, there was service. Using the National Health Insurance (JKN) guarantee, yes. My husband and I are enrolled in class two,” Yuni said in a written statement on Wednesday (17/6/2026). Yuni said the administrative process and treatment from the medical team proceeded quickly without any significant obstacles. This meant a great deal to her as a patient’s family member. Amidst the panic, the collaboration between the hospital team and the JKN guarantee provided reassurance for Yuni. She even noted that the hospital’s service did not differentiate between JKN patients and general patients. “Easy, not difficult. Like yesterday, going to A&E, we were served immediately, quickly, given treatment straight away, didn’t wait long, and there was never any discrimination. All this time, the service has always been the same, even though we were once registered in class three, it was just the same as the service for general patients. We feel it remains optimal,” said Yuni. Yuni has been utilising the JKN service managed by BPJS Kesehatan since 2016, precisely since she and her husband first married. Over that period, she assessed that the service at health facilities in the Yogyakarta area, from First-Level Health Facilities (FKTP) to hospitals, has been good and friendly. “In the Yogyakarta area, I feel the service from the community health centre (puskesmas) has been good and the service is excellent. At the hospital, from the nurses, they are also good, kind, and friendly to patients and families,” she explained. From a financial perspective, Yuni acknowledged that the JKN guarantee is very helpful. All treatment costs, including medicines, are covered without additional charges. In emergency conditions, Yuni can remain calm because there is certainty of treatment for her husband without disrupting the family’s financial situation. “There is no such thing as additional costs while using this JKN. From treatment to the medicines we consume, everything is free and guaranteed. If there were no JKN, the medical costs would certainly be large and quite burdensome for the family. But since we use JKN, we can just focus on my husband’s condition,” she said. Furthermore, Yuni hopes the quality of JKN services and BPJS Kesehatan partner hospitals can continue to be improved, even though they are already considered good. Yuni has personally experienced service without financial burden and without discrimination. She is now relieved to accompany her husband towards recovery without anxiety over costs. “My hope for the future is for BPJS Kesehatan to be even better, even more excellent. For hospital services, I also hope they become even better, even more excellent. The service is already good, the staff are already friendly,” she hoped.
