Story of Resident Buying Lexus for Rp1.3 Billion Suddenly Having It Forcefully Repossessed by Debt Collectors
A resident of Mojoklanggru Wetan, Gubeng, Surabaya, East Java, Andy Pratomo, has reported an attempt to forcibly repossess his Lexus sedan by several debt collectors (DCs) allegedly from the financing company BFI Finance.
However, the Lexus RX350 vehicle was claimed to have been purchased outright for Rp1.3 billion since September 2025. The case has escalated and was reported to the police by Andy, who is suspected to be the victim.
The incident began on 4 November 2025, when Andy’s younger brother, who was driving the car, was approached by a group of DCs at a restaurant on Jalan Mayjend Sungkono, Surabaya.
The DCs forced the seizure of the vehicle, claiming there were overdue instalments.
“This is my brother eating at Ramayana Mayjend. He was approached by debt collectors. They asked about this car. They demanded it forcefully. He [Andy’s brother] didn’t want to, so he went home,” said Andy on Monday (27/4).
The group of DCs followed Andy’s brother to his home.
At the house, they forced their way in and seized the car. The situation at his residence heated up due to a verbal altercation between the homeowner and about a dozen DCs who brought a power of attorney for repossession.
“Wow, shouting, angry, chaotic. Because they felt confident. The chassis and engine numbers are correct. He insisted on taking [my car]. But I didn’t want to,” he said.
Andy emphasised that he possesses all the original vehicle documents, from the BPKB, invoice, to spare keys, from a cash purchase at a showroom in Jakarta.
“He insisted by showing the power of attorney to repossess my car. It’s indeed a Lexus RX 350 model. I bought it in September. Cash trade-in with RX 270, basically cash. So BPKB, invoice, spare key, all are with me and legitimate,” he said.
Police Intervention
The tension was eventually handled by Polsek Mulyorejo. At the police station, the legal team from BFI Finance leasing company, along with around 50 debt collectors, appeared with their supporting documents.
However, Andy found several irregularities in the documents brought by the leasing side, including a mismatch in the vehicle type listed on the leasing’s BPKB.
“It’s funny there. On the BPKB, it’s not Lexus RX 350 but Lexus RX 250. It doesn’t match what the legal side says. And funnily, RX 250 never existed anywhere in the world. All are RX 270, RX 300, RX 350. But the chassis and engine numbers are the same. Even the BPKB number is the same,” he said.
Therefore, Andy suspects document forgery involving his vehicle’s data.
Andy also claimed he never pawned the car to any financing company. Additionally, a fiduciary document appeared in the name of someone else he doesn’t know at all.
“Maybe not from BFI, that leasing work can’t distinguish real from fake BPKB. And the BPKB isn’t handwritten date, it’s printed. So there’s suspicion of fake BPKB. That’s fake, 100 percent fake,” he said.
“And there’s a fiduciary agreement. So it seems like there’s a real leasing person. In the name of Adhi Yosea. I don’t know him at all. Never [any relation with Adhi Yosea and BFI]. Wrong person, reckless. The documents are fake,” he added.
To prove the vehicle’s legitimacy, both parties agreed to conduct a physical check at the Samsat office the next day. However, Andy said the financing company didn’t show up during the verification process.
“We went to Samsat at 09.00 the next morning for physical check. I came there with my brother bringing BPKB, invoice, all documents, physical check all proofs it’s mine and legitimate. Even the chassis and engine numbers matched when scraped. But BFI didn’t come,” he said.
Now Andy has reported the case to Polrestabes Surabaya with Report Number LP/B/1416/XII/2025/SPKT POLRESTABES SURABAYA/POLDA JAWA TIMUR on 8 December 2025.
The report concerns attempted robbery and unpleasant acts or defamation as regulated in Article 368 Jo Article 53 of the Criminal Code or 335 of the Criminal Code or Article 310 of the Criminal Code.
Andy expressed disappointment because the leasing side is considered to lack good faith in resolving the data error after document and physical checks at Samsat were conducted.
“No news until now. Because no news, I made a report to Polrestabes. Today at BAP,” he said early this week.
Polrestabes Surabaya stated that they are investigating the Lexus car case of Andy Pratomo, a Surabaya resident who suddenly had his car repossessed by a leasing’s debt collectors.
“On process, still investigating,” said Kanitresmob Satreskrim Polrestabes Surabaya, AKP Raditya Herlambang, when contacted last Monday.
BFI Finance Response
In response, BFI Finance Surabaya Area Manager, Putu Danda, stated that his side is coordinating with related parties. He emphasised that the company remains committed to following applicable legal channels.
“Regarding this, we can convey that since this issue arose, we have been and continue to communicate with related parties and regulators to follow up on this problem. As a company, we are committed to upholding the law,” said Putu early this week.
Putu added that because the disputed financing contract is recorded in Tangerang, Banten, the legal process will follow the provisions applicable in that legal domicile.
“Because the consumer financing contract is recorded in Tangerang, we follow the legal process according to applicable provisions, including the legal domicile stated in the contract,” he said.
