Story of Content Creator Whose Pig Party Screening Event is Cancelled
A watch-together (nobar) event for the film Pig Party, organised by a content creator at a cafe in Bandung, West Java, was postponed after the venue owner claimed it was prohibited by an unknown individual.
The event organiser, Albiansyah, recounted that he initially planned to hold a limited nobar at a cafe on Saturday, 16 May 2026. However, the plan fell through after the venue owner claimed to have been banned from screening the film. “I’m still looking for a new location now,” Albiansyah said when contacted by Tempo on Thursday, 14 May 2026.
The idea for the nobar stemmed from Albiansyah’s curiosity about the widespread reports of bans on the documentary film Pig Party: Colonialism in Our Time. He had searched for screening schedules in Bandung via the Instagram account Indonesia Baru but found he had missed the available dates.
Encouragement then came from netizens who flooded the comments section of his Instagram account, urging him to organise his own nobar.
“In the end, I thought, why not just do it myself. Rather than struggling to join others’ events, I decided to make my own,” Albiansyah said.
He then searched for a location and obtained approval from the cafe owner to hold the event. A digital poster for the nobar was uploaded to social media on Wednesday evening, 13 May 2026.
Initially, Albiansyah targeted around 30 participants. However, the public response exceeded expectations. “I hadn’t even checked my phone for two hours, and already 35 people had signed up,” he said.
He then coordinated with the venue owner, who stated the cafe could accommodate up to 50 people. However, shortly afterwards, the owner contacted him again to convey the prohibition on screening the film. “He didn’t explain who banned it or how,” Albiansyah said.
Currently, Albiansyah is searching for an alternative location and has informed the participants about the temporary cancellation.
This incident adds to the long list of bans on screenings of the film Pig Party in various regions. Previously, a nobar of the documentary at the Student Activity Unit Building of Khairun University, Ternate, on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, was also dispersed by a uniformed TNI officer.
KAFRAPALA General Chairman, Asriati La Abu, said the dispersal of the screening occurred on Tuesday night, around 10:56 PM WIT.
Asriati recounted that initially, a campus security officer arrived to document the watch-together event for the film by directors Dandhy Dwi Laksono and Cipry Paju Dale. “After that, security returned for the second time with one TNI member and immediately stopped the activity,” Asriati told Tempo on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.
