Storms devastate Philippine infrastructure and agriculture worth 12.4 billion pesos

Manila (ANTARA) - The combined impact of tropical storms Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and Pilandok, alongside the southwest monsoon, has damaged infrastructure and agriculture valued at 12.4 billion pesos (approximately Rp3.47 trillion).

Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday recorded estimated agricultural damage at around 4.1 billion pesos (approximately Rp1.14 trillion), while infrastructure damage amounted to about 8.3 billion pesos (approximately Rp2.32 trillion).

Agricultural damage occurred in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cordillera, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.

The number of farmers and fishermen affected in these regions totals 92,868 people, while the total affected land area spans 80,275 hectares.

The NDRRMC explained that 56,787 hectares of damaged rice fields have the potential to recover, whereas another 23,488 hectares are beyond repair.

Furthermore, infrastructure damage was also recorded in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.

The NDRRMC disaster mitigation council explained that 3,758 houses in seven areas were damaged, while 603 houses collapsed.

Local authorities recorded 44 fatalities, 12 of which were caused by severe weather disturbances.

Additionally, the climate phenomenon caused 18 injuries, and five others remain missing.
