Storm hits two Mataram subdistricts

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: A freak storm hit two
subdistricts in West Nusa Tenggara province on Tuesday afternoon,
destroying dozens of buildings and severely injuring a local
resident.

Antara news agency reported on Wednesday that the storm hit
Dasan Cemen subdistrict, Mataram mayoralty, and neighboring
Bengkel subdistrict, West Lombok regency.

In Dasan Cemen, the storm tore through the roofs of dozens of
residential houses, warehouses and factories in the area.

It also toppled several trees on Jl. Tuan Guru Haji, one of
which fell onto a passing Suzuki Carry minivan.

The driver, Zainal Arifin, escaped unharmed, but his son Nizar
Ardiwinata, 15, riding shotgun, was injured.

He is receiving treatment at a local community health center.

The storm also destroyed two residences in Bengkel
subdistrict, West Lombok. -- Antara
