Storm destroys 85 houses

PURBALINGGA, Central Java: At least 85 houses were destroyed in two villages in the Kalimanah district of Purbalingga in a storm that began Saturday and ended Sunday morning. No fatalities were reported.

Grecol and Karangpetir villagers are rebuilding their houses with the help of local military and police.

The storm is the fourth natural disaster to hit the disaster- prone area this year. Purbalingga's north is prone to landslides and typhoons, and the areas along the Serayu and Klawing rivers to the south often flood.

The local administration and the Red Cross have sent food and medicine. (sur/wah)
