Stop all the talk and get on with it
Stop all the talk and get on with it
From Bisnis Indonesia
We have been talking a lot of corruption without doing
anything about it. What should President Habibie do?
1. He should set the example of voluntarily issuing a public
statement that his wealth can be audited. He should then publish
the findings on his bank accounts and a list of his companies.
2. His example should be followed by the current and former
Cabinet ministers, generals, state officials down to director
level (for starters).
3. Assign an independent and professional public
accountant/auditor for the audit.
4. Follow up the findings of the audit if there are
indications of irregularities by taking the case to court.
5. The basis for the voluntary statement is morality.
Officials refusing to make a statement need not be coerced into
doing so. The people will judge for themselves.
If Pak Harto who has been denounced dares to launch a
challenge and give his signature, why don't the others?
Stop all the debates on corruption, collusion and nepotism
(KKN) and start with the method described above.
