TOKYO (Reuter): Sumitomo Corp said yesterday that it and Fuji
Electric Co Ltd had won a 29 billion yen order from Indonesia to
build the world's largest geothermal power generators.
The consortium is to build a geothermal power plant, with two
110,000 kilowatt (kw) generators, on Java, Indonesia, for
independent power producer Mandala Nusantara Ltd, a Sumitomo
spokesman said.
Mandala Nusantara is owned 85 percent by private power firm
AsiaPower Ltd, while the remainder is held by investment firm PT
Bumi Mandala Perkasa, he said.
The first of the two generators is scheduled to start
commercial operations by March 1999, and the second one the end
of 1999.
Mandala Nusantara plans to expand the capacity of the plant to
440,000 kw in the future, he added.
