A motorcycle theft occurred in Muarajaya Village, Caringin District, Bogor, West Java. However, the thief was unable to escape with the vehicle because it stalled.

Caringin Police Station Chief AKP Jajang stated that the incident occurred on Saturday (28 February). The vehicle went missing whilst parked at the victim’s lodgings.

“The complainant last used the motorcycle at 00:11 Western Indonesian Time before parking it with the steering locked,” said Jajang on Monday (9 March 2026).

The following morning, the victim discovered the motorcycle was gone. Jajang indicated that the thief likely damaged the vehicle’s ignition lock.

“It is suspected that the theft occurred when the perpetrator damaged the ignition lock using tools or a counterfeit key,” he stated.

The victim then reported the incident to police. Officers conducted an investigation and examined the crime scene.

“Subsequently, officers coordinated with the complainant, suggesting he seek assistance from colleagues through social media,” he explained.

This approach yielded results. Shortly thereafter, a resident provided information, claiming to have seen the motorcycle in nearby bushes.

“Based on preliminary assessment, the motorcycle stalled and could not be driven, so the theft was unsuccessful and the vehicle was abandoned,” he said.

Police checked the bushes, but the motorcycle was not there. Officers then traced tyre marks and reviewed CCTV footage until locating the motorcycle at a resident’s home. The resident had secured the motorcycle after discovering it in the bushes, waiting for the owner to arrive.

“The complainant did not object to the resident safeguarding the vehicle. In fact, he expressed gratitude and relief that his motorcycle had been found and recovered,” Jajang concluded.
