Stolen luxury cars returned to KL
SINGAPORE (DPA): Luxury cars stolen by an international
syndicate and destined for New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia
were turned over to Malaysian police by Singapore authorities for
return to their owners, news reports said on Friday.
Sixty cars, including Lexuses, Mitsubishi Pajeros and Toyota
Prados, were loaded Thursday onto transporters bound for Kuala
Lumpur.
Yaacob Mohammad Amin, director of Malaysia's Criminal
Investigation Department, told the Singapore media that the
thieves were responsible for stealing S$3 million (US$1.76
million) worth of cars in Malaysia.
The vehicles were driven to the city-state, where they were
given makeovers, forged documents and new logs books before
shipping.
Seven syndicate members, including two New Zealanders, an
Indonesian and four Singaporeans, have been arrested and more
than 80 cars recovered since the syndicate was crushed during a
blitz in July.
