STMM Yogyakarta Sets MURI Record with 1,541 Animation Characters
The Multi Media College (STMM) Yogyakarta has successfully secured a Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI) record in the category of ‘Most Animation and Game Characters Created by Students from a Single Higher Education Institution, totalling 1,541 characters’. This record was officially registered on 9 September 2026, coinciding with the Graduation Ceremony for Undergraduate and Applied Bachelor programmes for Period I of the 2026/2027 Academic Year.
The graduation ceremony was held at the STMM Auditorium, with 188 graduates participating in the proceedings.
The Chairman of STMM, Dr. H.R.M. Agung Harimurti, M.Kom., expressed his congratulations and gratitude to the graduates, parents, lecturers, and staff for their hard work in supporting the students’ academic success. Notably, 27 graduates, or approximately 14.36%, have already been absorbed into various industries, the workforce, or have ventured into entrepreneurship.
“Through this record-breaking achievement, STMM aims to demonstrate that the Animation and Game Technology Study Programme has successfully curated, organised, and presented student works in a book publication. The primary goal is to gain recognition as a ‘1,000 IP (Intellectual Property) Campus’,” stated an official STMM release on Friday (11/9/2026).
The ‘Animation and Game Character Design’ book was compiled and laid out by STMM animation lecturer, Atmaja Septa Miyosa. The compilation process began in early June 2026 and was completed in early September 2026.
The MURI certificate was presented by Ari Andriani, Senior Representative of MURI Semarang, and received by Agung. The ceremony continued with the presentation of a medal to the Head of the Animation Study Programme, Atmaja Septa Miyosa.
This MURI record-breaking event also commemorates the 41st Anniversary of STMM. While the initial target was to collect 1,441 works, the final tally reached 1,541 character designs.
The entire collection originated from 416 students within the Animation and Game Technology Study Programme who participated in Character Design courses between 2021 and 2026. This record-breaking feat is expected to enhance STMM’s branding as an educational institution that produces superior digital talent and generates innovative, wide-reaching works.
