JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government is currently developing a work-from-home (WFH) scheme. This policy is planned following concerns over an energy crisis due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the certainty of implementing this policy is still awaiting approval from President Prabowo Subianto.

Although he could not confirm when the WFH policy announcement would be made, Airlangga assured that the policy would be announced before April 2026.

Here are some leaks regarding the policy.

On a different occasion, Airlangga confirmed that the WFH policy would be implemented starting in March 2026.

“The main point is it will be set this month,” said Airlangga after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

“WFH will be detailed, but after Lebaran we will implement it,” Airlangga said at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) office, Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026).

Airlangga also revealed that this WFH policy would apply to civil servants (ASN) and private sector workers.

However, for the private sector, this policy is in the form of a recommendation.

“(Applies to) ASN as well as a recommendation for the private sector,” said Airlangga at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) office, Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026).

On the same occasion, Airlangga also stated that not all ASN and private sector workers would implement this policy.

For example, the public services sector is exempted from the WFH policy because this work requires physical presence.
