Stickup on minibus

Stickup on minibus

From Media Indonesia

Holdups are happening on public buses again. Recently my
college-going child became a victim. The incident happened on
Thursday, Sept. 26, 1996, around 6:30 a.m. on minibus B-91, which
plies the Tanah Abang-Batusari route. When the bus arrived at the
Cemara bus stop from Batusari, three young lads boarded the bus.

When the vehicle neared Pasar Patra, the youngsters threatened
those on board with machetes. All eight passengers, among which
were five women, were forced to hand over all their money and
purses. My child, who had a considerable amount on her to pay the
fees for her extra-curricular activities, could not evade the
act.

When they arrived at Tobar, the young thugs got off in a
hurry. The passengers, including the driver and the conductor,
did not dare fight them. They were too afraid.

Crimes on B-91 minibuses occur often. We hope, therefore, that
the security officials, who plan to man public transportation
with security guards, especially on these unsafe routes, will
implement their promises soon to combat these crimes.
