A British citizen, Steven Lyons (45), was arrested in Bali. Lyons is a top-class Interpol fugitive involved in numerous transnational crimes.

Lyons was apprehended by a joint team from the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division (Divisi Hubungan Internasional Polri), Bali Regional Police (Polda Bali), and Immigration at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday (28/3/2026) at around 11:58 WITA.

Secretary of Indonesia’s NCB-Interpol, Brigadier General Untung Widiyatmoko, stated that this arrest is a direct result of sharp detection and global intelligence cooperation.

“The success of this arrest stemmed from very rapid and precise intelligence exchange. Indonesia’s NCB Interpol received notification from Abu Dhabi’s NCB that the Red Notice subject was en route to Indonesian territory. Based on this data, Polri’s Divhubinter immediately instructed interception measures and coordinated intensively with Bali Regional Police and Immigration authorities,” said Brigadier General Untung Widiyatmoko on Tuesday (31/3).

Steven Lyons is listed on Interpol Red Notice number A-4908/3-2026, issued on 26 March 2026. His arrest in Indonesia is an integral part of ‘Operation Armourum’, a multinational joint investigation initiated by Spain’s Central Operative Unit of the Guardia Civil and Police Scotland.

Steven Lyons is the top leader of the ‘Lyons Crime Family’, a Scottish-origin transnational crime organisation that orchestrates a large-scale money laundering and narcotics trafficking network from Spain to the United Kingdom.

The day before the target landed in Bali, on 27 March 2026, European authorities conducted simultaneous operations resulting in the arrest of 33 syndicate members in Scotland and 12 in Spain.

Meanwhile, Steven Lyons was detected fleeing to Indonesia and landing in Bali on Saturday (28/3). Immigration officials, aware of the Red Notice, informed Bali Regional Police, leading to Lyons’ arrest without resistance.

Furthermore, Brigadier General Untung Widiyatmoko emphasised Polri’s commitment that Indonesia will not provide space for organised crime perpetrators.

“This arrest is not merely a tactical success but also a firm message to the international community. Polri is fully committed to breaking the chain of transnational crime. There is no safe zone in Indonesia for Interpol fugitives,” he asserted.

Currently, Indonesian authorities have decided to deport the suspect immediately to face trial in Europe. To ensure the smooth and secure process of deportation, Polri has facilitated the arrival of two officers from Spain’s Guardia Civil, who arrived in Bali on Monday (30/3) afternoon at 16:35 WITA. They will coordinate directly with Indonesian authorities for the handover and repatriation of the suspect.
