Stepmother Who Abused Child in Batam Named Suspect, Victim's Father Questioned
Police have named VJH (38) as a suspect for the alleged abuse of her stepson, identified as A (9), in Batam, Riau Islands. The victim sustained bruises to his face and swelling around his eyes.
“The stepmother, with the initials VJH, has been named a suspect,” said Sagulung Police Chief Iptu Husnul Afkar on Monday (22/6/2026).
VJH admitted to police that she abused her stepson. The suspect claimed she was upset and emotional at the time of the assault.
“The suspect admitted to committing the abuse on Saturday (13/6) at her residence in Kavling Bukit Kamboja, Sungai Pelunggut Village, Sagulung District. The abuse was carried out because she was emotional and upset with the victim,” he explained.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect abused the victim using a broom and a clothes hanger. Police are currently investigating the role of the victim’s biological father in the case.
“The suspect carried out the abuse not only using her hands but also using a broomstick and a hanger,” he said.
“We are still investigating the role of the victim’s biological father in this case,” he added.
