Stepmother Who Abused a Child in Sukabumi Until Death Named as Suspect

The cause of death of a child with the initials NS in Sukabumi has been clarified. The Sukabumi Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) has officially named the victim’s stepmother, TR, as a suspect for alleged physical and psychological abuse.

Sukabumi Police Chief AKBP Samian confirmed that the suspect was named after investigators investigated the case of the child’s death due to violence.

“Regarding the case of the child’s death due to violence that occurred at the Sukabumi Police, the Criminal Investigation Unit has named a suspect, namely Ms. TR, who is the stepmother. Ms. TR has been named a suspect for alleged violence, both physical and psychological,” said Samian at the Sukabumi Police Headquarters, as reported by detikJabar, Wednesday (25/2/2026).

A shocking fact was revealed that TR’s heinous actions are suspected to have been going on for years. Samian said that the victim, NS, had been abused since 2023. In fact, in November 2024, there was a police report but it ended peacefully.

“The violence experienced was ordinary physical violence, such as being pinched, slapped, scratched, like that, while living with TR,” explained Samian, revealing the form of torture experienced by the victim.

Regarding the motive, Samian said that the suspect, TR, used the excuse of child discipline as a defense. “As for the motive, we are still investigating, because as a parent, she claims to be educating her child. Like that,” he added.

To be held accountable for her actions, TR was charged with multiple articles in the Child Protection Law with the threat of severe punishment.

“We have charged her with the alleged articles, namely Article 80 in conjunction with Article 76C of Law No. 35 of 2014 and Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection,” said Samian.
