Stepmother Suspected of Child Abuse in Sukabumi Appears Subdued During Police Interrogation
A stepmother with initials TR (47), suspected of inflicting fatal abuse on her stepchild, appeared listless during police interrogation. The woman, known to work as a civil servant, looked physically exhausted whilst undergoing intensive questioning in the Criminal Investigation Unit of Sukabumi Police Station.
TR underwent marathon questioning in the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA). Based on visual evidence obtained, TR, wearing a black and white patterned headscarf and maroon-red clothing, appeared hunched whilst sitting before the investigator who was compiling the case file. She was accompanied by one of her legal representatives.
There was no longer any impression of fierceness about this woman. Yet, as a result of the alleged crime, she now faces the prospect of spending more than a decade behind bars.
Facing 15 Years Imprisonment
West Java Police Public Affairs Division Head, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, revealed that investigators had applied layered charges against TR. Given that the alleged violence resulted in the victim’s death, TR has been officially named a suspect.
“Article 80 Paragraph (3), because the violence caused the victim to die, the suspect faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and/or a fine of up to 3 billion rupiah,” stated Hendra in a written statement received on Wednesday (25 February 2026).
Additionally, investigators have also charged TR under Article 80 Paragraph (2) regarding serious injury with a threat of 5 years, as well as Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 76C of the Child Protection Law.
Senior Commissioner Hendra explained that one of the key pieces of evidence linking TR to the crime is video footage of the victim with initials NJ at Jampangkulon Regional General Hospital. In critical condition, the unfortunate child managed to provide a distressing testimony before taking his final breath.
