Stepmother in Sukabumi Named as Suspect in Child Abuse Case Leading to Death

The Sukabumi Police in West Java have named TR as a suspect in the alleged abuse of a child, NS, 13, leading to the child’s death. TR, the victim’s stepmother, is suspected of not only committing physical violence but also psychological abuse.

Sukabumi Police Chief, Commissioner Samian, stated that the naming of TR as a suspect was the result of hard work by the investigative team in collecting various pieces of evidence. The investigation and subsequent inquiry led to the identification of the suspect.

“The Sukabumi Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit has named TR, the victim’s stepmother, as a suspect in the alleged abuse, both physical and psychological,” Samian told reporters on Wednesday (February 25th).

Samian explained that the alleged abuse experienced by the victim had been ongoing for some time. Previous incidents of abuse had also been reported to the police.

“Regarding the alleged abuse experienced by the victim, this has been happening for several years. For example, on November 4th, 2024, a report was also filed. The report was processed, but there was a reconciliation. A similar incident also occurred in 2023,” he explained.

Samian stated that the motive behind the suspect’s cruel actions was to discipline the victim. However, the methods used were inappropriate and involved alleged physical and psychological abuse. “But we are still investigating further,” he emphasized.

The police are still investigating the possibility of other suspects in the case. Samian stated that the police are currently awaiting the results of the pathological anatomy and toxicology tests.

“We are still waiting for the results of the autopsy because the laboratory tests require time, about 1-2 weeks,” he said.

The suspect is charged under Article 80 in conjunction with Article 76c of Law No. 35/2014 of the Republic of Indonesia in conjunction with Law No. 23/2002 concerning Child Protection. (I-2)
