A man with the initial A (40) in Pelalawan Regency, Riau, has committed a heinous act against his stepdaughter. The perpetrator sexually abused the 11-year-old victim. The case was reported by the perpetrator’s wife, who is also the victim’s mother, to the Pelalawan Police on 23 June 2026. The perpetrator’s actions were discovered after the mother became suspicious of changes in her daughter’s behaviour. The victim is still in primary school. “After being coaxed, the victim disclosed the inappropriate acts by the suspected perpetrator,” said Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Bayu Ramadhan Effendi on Friday (26/6/2026). Upon hearing this, the mother immediately went to the Pelalawan Police and filed a report. The Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation Unit followed up on the report and conducted an examination of the complainant. “Subsequently, we secured the suspected perpetrator in Padang Luas Village, Langgam District,” he added. The perpetrator is currently being held at the Pelalawan Police station for further investigation. Police will charge the perpetrator under Article 473 paragraph (9) and paragraph (2) letter b in conjunction with Article 415 letter b of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. Meanwhile, Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP John Louis Letedara expressed the police’s commitment to protecting children. He also stressed that the case would be thoroughly investigated. “We are committed to providing maximum protection for children and victims. The suspected perpetrator has been detained and is currently in the investigation process,” said John. He added that the Pelalawan Police are also coordinating with the UPTD PPA and related parties to provide psychological assistance to the victim. Furthermore, he urged the public to speak up if they witness any acts of violence against children. “There is no room for perpetrators of crimes against children in Pelalawan. The Pelalawan Police affirm that child-related cases will be processed thoroughly, victims will be assisted, and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions,” he stressed.
