Stellantis-Leapmotor Expands Collaboration to Production in Madrid

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Car manufacturers Stellantis and Leapmotor are exploring a strategic partnership aimed at building on the success of their collaboration. According to the official Stellantis website on Sunday, the two companies have agreed to expand their cooperation, which includes increasing production at Stellantis’s plant in Figueruelas, Zaragoza, Spain. They are evaluating the addition of a new production line to manufacture Opel’s latest C-SUV BEV model, with the implementation timeline still under assessment, including potential production starting in 2028. This will complement the current production of the Peugeot 208 and Lancia Ypsilon at Figueruelas. Leapmotor will also bring production of its C-SUV B10 model to the plant, potentially starting as early as 2026. The two companies will also collaborate on procurement through LPMI to enhance price competitiveness by leveraging China’s new energy vehicle ecosystem while using the European supply chain to accelerate the launch of new models. The expansion will also be undertaken as part of strengthening the future of the Villaverde plant in Madrid through the allocation of Leapmotor vehicles to that facility, potentially launching in 2028. “This is expected to support production and advance localisation in Europe for world-class electric vehicle manufacturing at affordable prices to meet real customer needs. Today’s announcement reflects our intention to deepen the partnership and take another step towards greater collaboration in the future,” said Stellantis CEO Antonia Filosa. As is known, Stellantis holds a 21 per cent stake in Leapmotor since 2023, while Leapmotor (LPMI) is a joint venture with a composition of 51 per cent Stellantis and 49 per cent Leapmotor, with rights to sell and produce Leapmotor outside China.
