Steel plates added to prevent vehicles from falling into sinkhole at Lenteng Agung road in South Jakarta

JAKARTA — Repair work for a sinkhole on Lenteng Agung road in South Jakarta is ongoing on Saturday, 30 May 2026. At the scene, the collapsed road section above the drainage channel remains temporarily closed as repairs are carried out by Jakarta’s Water Resources Agency (SDA). Officials have installed steel plates over the damaged road section to maintain vehicle access. This has caused traffic congestion and queues in both directions. At around 9:35 AM WIB, a SDA operational vehicle arrived with additional steel plates. The plates are being installed to widen the temporary lane and reduce the risk of vehicles falling into the excavation area. A field officer from Jakarta’s Water Resources Agency (SDA) said the steel plates are an emergency measure to keep the road passable during repairs. He added that major repair work will resume at night to minimise traffic disruption. ‘The repair work will resume tonight. Today’s focus is on traffic management and temporary closure using steel plates,’ he said. As of 10:00 AM WIB, traffic congestion persisted around the site due to lane narrowing at the works area. Meanwhile, joint teams from Jakarta’s Transportation Agency and the Water Resources Agency remain on-site to manage traffic and ensure safe handling of the situation.
