The national steel industry is facing several challenges, ranging from import pressures to the availability of raw materials and energy. These conditions have prompted the Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA) to prepare a strategic agenda to strengthen industrial competitiveness from upstream to downstream.

The President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk/Krakatau Steel Group (KRAS), Willgo Zainar, has replaced Akbar Djohan as the Chairman of IISIA for the 202<0xC2>6-2030 period. This change in management was conducted during an executive committee meeting in Jakarta on Monday (28/09/2026).

Willgo stated that unity among steel industry players from upstream to downstream, alongside synergy with the government and all stakeholders, is essential to face industrial challenges.

The six strategic agendas under IISIA’s attention include the optimisation of trade remedies and import controls, the implementation of mandatory Indonesian National Standards (SNI), increasing the effectiveness of Domestic Component Level (TKDN) and the Increase in the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN), enhancing supply capacity and energy competitiveness, ensuring the long-term availability of raw materials, and the utilisation of fiscal and investment incentives.

“I am confident that with the unity and solidarity of all industry players, we can together fight for stronger protection for the national steel industry,” said Willgo in his statement on Monday (28/09/2026).

Willgo also expressed his appreciation to Akbar Djohan and the previous IISIA management board for their contributions to the organisation’s development.

“The new leadership of IISIA is expected to further strengthen collaboration between all steel industry players, the government, and stakeholders in creating a healthy, competitive, and sustainable industrial ecosystem,” Willgo added.

The change in IISIA management serves as a momentum to continue the organisation’s leadership while strengthening coordination among steel industry players. For Krakatau Steel, this involvement is also part of the company’s contribution to strengthening the national steel industry.
