Steel Factory Explosion, One Dead and Two Others Seriously Injured

A loud explosion occurred at a steel factory in Janti Village, Waru District, Sidoarjo Regency, on Monday (6/4). As a result of this workplace accident, one person died, and two others were reported to have sustained serious injuries. The explosion at PT Great Wall Steel happened during the process of cutting scrap metal using a blender welding tool. However, during the cutting process, a loud explosion suddenly occurred.

“Around 2 PM the explosion happened,” said the Chairman of RW 2, Janti Village, Sukani.

Shrapnel from the explosion hit several workers near the location. Consequently, one worker died at the scene, and two other workers suffered serious injuries. The worker who died was identified as Rio, who worked as a blender assistant. The two other workers with serious injuries were Prayono, 27, who sustained severe chest injuries, and M Zaenal Abidin, 40.

All victims of the workplace accident were immediately evacuated to Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Pondok Chandra, Sidoarjo. Meanwhile, police officers have arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the explosion. There has been no official statement from the company yet. Through the HRD of PT Great Wall Steel, Heri, the company stated that it could not yet provide detailed explanations regarding the incident. Heri said they are still awaiting the results of the examination.

“We cannot provide further statements at this time because we are still in the process of examination and investigation,” said Heri.
