Statement on STPDN incident
Statement on STPDN incident
From Republika
In connection with the unnatural death of a student of the Public Administration Institute (STPDN), Wahyu Hidayat, on Sept. 9, 2003, the Islamic Cooperation Forum of Civil Service Colleges (FOKRI-PTK) has issued the following statement over the incident:
While offering its deepest condolences, FOKRI appeals that all relevant parties avoid emotional impulses and follow their consciences in responding to the incident. High morality and intelligence should be upheld in order to prevent similar cases. In the meantime, the authorities need support in handling the present case.
The STPDN leadership should be held responsible for the image of the college and rehabilitate its good name by making a statement to the media. The press needs to act professionally, observe its ethical code and respect STPDN rules. Whereas STPDN, should tighten control over all its students.
The time has come for the management of all civil service institutes to review the rules on, and assess the application of, student development. In addition, it is necessary for senior students to avoid violence in guiding their juniors.
