State to Reconstruct Face of YTR, Destroyed After Three Years of Captivity and Torture by Taufik Hidayat

The tragic fate of YTR (29), a woman who was allegedly held captive and tortured by her own boyfriend for years, has drawn direct attention from the government. Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin has confirmed that all of the victim’s medical expenses will be borne by the state. In addition to medical treatment, the victim will also undergo reconstruction procedures to restore her face, which was damaged due to the violence allegedly perpetrated by the suspect, Taufik Hidayat (30). YTR is currently receiving treatment at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung, a hospital under the Ministry of Health. “From a health perspective, the person concerned is now being treated at the Ministry of Health’s hospital in Bandung, Hasan Sadikin Hospital. And we will provide care up to reconstruction, because her face also needs to be reconstructed,” he said at Sespolwan Lemdiklat Polri in South Jakarta on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. The case, which has seized public attention, has not only left physical scars on the victim. Consequently, the government is preparing integrated handling by involving several ministries and the regional government. Budi explained that the victim’s recovery also covers social and economic aspects so that the woman can return to a normal life after the alleged prolonged torture. “Her economic issues are being handled by the regional government, her social issues are being handled by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, and the three of us have coordinated,” he said. The Minister of Health expressed concern over the incident that befell the victim. According to him, such cases should not happen and must be a shared concern. A woman from Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, West Java, is believed to be a victim of captivity and abuse by her boyfriend. The woman, identified by the initials YTR, was allegedly held captive by the suspect, identified as TH, in a boarding room and had been declared missing by her family for three years. After the victim had introduced her boyfriend to her parents, the family lost contact with YTR for years, until she was finally found in critical condition with severe injuries resulting from the alleged captivity and abuse.
