State Secretary Supports Local Governments in Promoting Cycling to Work
JAKARTA - The State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi supports the steps taken by several local governments to initiate a culture of commuting to work by bicycle in order to save fuel oil.
“We all appreciate the initiatives from provincial and district governments, for example by starting to promote a culture of going to the workplace by bicycle,” said Prasetyo during a press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026), quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube.
“Hopefully these initiatives can be followed by other regions,” he added.
Because, in addition to saving fuel oil consumption, this culture can also make the community healthier.
In addition, he mentioned that the work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday for Civil Servants (ASN) will become a momentum to save fuel oil.
“For how we can make our work methods more efficient, make our transportation methods more efficient and transform them, change the fuel oil consumption from our daily activities,” said Prasetyo.
“The implementation of WFH for ASN in central and regional agencies carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto during a virtual press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Airlangga explained that Friday was chosen because the work activities on that day are not like Monday to Thursday.
He stated that the four-day work week policy has also been implemented in several ministries/agencies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We chose Friday because Friday is half a day, meaning not full like Monday to Thursday,” he said.
Airlangga also emphasised that public services will continue to run despite the WFH policy every Friday.
“Public services will continue to operate and productive activities including banking, capital markets, and others will continue to run. They are allowed to arrange it at the office with certain applications,” he said.
